If you are ever riding Silverstar...
I was visiting Silvestar this past weekend for a friend's Birthday and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test out another Caesar. My group stopped for lunch and drinks at The Bulldog Cafe. The first thing I noticed was that the menu did not list Caesars under its cocktail menu - unlike Dustys, which has a whole section dedicated to its Caesars. This did not look good.
When I asked the server for a Caesar though he did inquire as to how spicy I would like it. This made me believe that, perhaps, he had taken Caesar orders before.
The Caesar arrived and it was simple but it was good. After downing my first Caesar (the glasses were tall but small) in less than 5 minutes the group went on to order a pitcher of Caesars. My kind of group. Along with the pitcher the server brought the all the condiments so we could make our own personal flavouring. Thumbs up server!

The Silverstar Caesar
Garnish: lime and spicy bean
Spice: 2/5
Price: $$1/2
The Bulldog is a reliable place to get a Caesar while at Silverstar but I wouldn't hesitate to shop around the small village for a better one if you have the chance. Though it did the job it wasn't really anything to rave about.
The GLCaesar. Is it better than Dutsys?
Another post from Whistler - you can tell its snowboarding season and most of my weekends aren't spent chugging Caesars on rainy patios in Vancouver.
Most definitely the biggest competitor to the Dusty's Caesar is the GLC Caesar. I was recently riding in Whistler and wanted to meet a friend for an apres drink. She suggested the GLC patio for some caesars, nachos and beer and I agreed as I was hoping to ride out into the Village anyways. I arrived at peak apres hours and there was a line already forming at the entrace of the GLC - as it is a popular place to drink. I find it attracts a older crowd and is often frequented by locals.
My friend had a table in the corner and was already sipping on her Caes. I asked her what she thought of it and she replied,
"I think GLC has the best Caesars in Whistler - for f**ks sake there is bacon in it!"
"But what about the Dusty's Caesar?" I asked. "There's beef jerky in it."
"It's overrated."
I ordered one and had to agree that it was also a well-made and delicious Caesar. Drink specifics are as follows:
I couldn't help but noticing though, as I looked around the bar, there weren't very many caesars being ordered.
That made me ask myself: Is the GLC Caesar really better than Dustys?
My question is then who makes a better Caesar - Dustys or The GLC?
Also what is a better apres - Creekside or the Village?
The GLC Caesar is definitely better than the average Caesar. Its deliciousness cannot be denied. If you find yourself riding out to the Village and there is a spot on the patio I would 100% reccomend heading to the GLC for your Caesar.

The Inagural Post - Dustys in Whistler
Because this blog came into fruition in Whistler, the first post will be a review of a caesar outside of the city.
Sunday afternoon found myself and a friend (insanely hungover) wanting to do some research on Caesars of Whistler. The first place we thought to review was Dustys. Dustys is famous for its Apres and perhaps even more famous for its Caesar - which can be purchased on Sundays in combo form as the Voyageur (a caesar and a Labatt's Blue for a low low price).
The Dusty's Caesar, this author has heard, is famous for its unique garnish choices -specifically in addition to the traditional celery stalk the bartenders have opted to garnish with a piece of salty and delicious beef jerky.
My friend and I arrived at Dustys just before 3pm and ordered two Caesars. One traditional Dustys Caesar as well as the Dustys Super Caesar. As we discussed the merits of both Caesars we noticed quickly that of the clientelle in Dustys, both young and old, many were enjoying Sunday Apres Caesar. I often wonder if Caesars taste better at certain times of day, and in certain circumstances. And really, who can beat an Apres Caesar on a Sunday afternoon.
The Super Caesar - My friend's initial reaction to the Super Caesar was, "Woah - this is boozy." This is because in the Super Caesar there is 3oz of vodka. My first reaction upon seeing the caesar was, "this looks more like a meal than a drink." And in fact, the Super Caesar is really more like an appetizer, or a light snack. It's garnish includes a lime, celery, spicy bean, beef jerky, jalapeno pepper and a skewer with three prawns and three chorizo sausage. It tastes a bit spicier than the traditional Dustys Caesar . Served in tall glass.
Spice Level: 4/5
Prices: $$$$$
The Dustys Caesar - The traditional Caesar has a garnish of a lime, celery, spicy bean and beef jerky. Its seasoning includes horseradish - which is common to many caesar variations.Served in a tall glass.
Spice Level: 3.5/5
Prices: $$$ **It is suggested you order the Voyageur as a combo, with a Labatt's Blue, as a great deal!!
One thing I love about Dustys Caesars is that they alwasy come in a tall glass - which is optimal, I think. All in all, a great Caesar experience and this author highly reccomends a Dustys visit after a long day on the mountain. Any whistler local and whistler frequenter would have to agree.

For the Love of the Caes
"By all accounts, a well made Caesar is a great cocktail. It isn't tied to any traditional recipe, but follows a basic set of requirements, such as Clamato. Part of the fun is hitting different places to see what they've done to make their Caesar better. Every place is a surprise."
